SOS in Italia

It all started Tuesday afternoon. I was leaving a preschool (part of a school project) with three of my girls as we hurried to the bus stop because - here's something new - it was snowing. These flutters were actually sticking to the ground now and creating quite the pretty scene of winter wonderland around us. No biggie though, right? Connecticut folk were born to ready for a little snow. By nighttime, it was up to my ankles...

The next morning the girls called me to tell me they wouldn't be able to make it to school, but Alice was willing to go with me if she caught the bus now and I was sure I could make it. I'm just waking up; do you think I'm thinking straight? Of course not. I assured Ali I'd meet her in the center and got on my way. Face washed, bag packed, shoes on, let's get this day goin'. BOOM - or not. Walking out of my apartment I saw that my street wasn't plowed, my door needed to be shoved open with quite the effort and the snow was continuing to fall upon us. Needless to say, I never made it back to the preschool. Instead I made it to the center (in my Converse - someone wasn't expecting this snow and I think it was me) and slowly made my way back... three hours, thanks to delayed buses, slushy streets and three coffee stops just to warm up, wasted that instead could have been spent in BED.

Also needless to say, I've been snowed in the house since. I'd say there's easily a foot and a half outside which is nothing I can't handle, really! It's these Italians. I'm tellin' ya you'd think they've never seen snow before. The kids are off the walls with excitement and the adults are just as gittery because their cars are immovable and the streets aren't cleaned. The only paths made in the roads and sidewalks are those made by constant travel. I must have easily spent an hour outside yesterday as the Norwegian and little Italian brother snowball-fought attempting to clean our car........ with a dust pan. What is this nonsense? Do snowplows not exist here? Have you no plan for this scenario? Geeze, what rookies.

That's okay, I won't complain. All this mess has the school's closed until Monday :)

As I get back to my nice mini-vacation, I'll leave you with some pretty things and pretty people to see...
