Fiera di Arte

There's something about Italy that can turn even me, the least creative stick-figure-drawing creature that you know, into an art lover. There was this sweet contemporary art show that came to town and as one of those, "when in Rome" things, it caught my interest.

I went on a field trip with my class to a smaller section a few days back of this art exhibit, Art First. We participated in an experiment (Hyper Museum Project I've linked you up just to see what Google Translate is made of), the first of its kind in Italy, in which we were given cellphones and twenty minutes to find our favorite art piece. It's actually kind of stressful - twenty minutes and a floor full of beauty? What decisions! But that's the point - you need to love it for just how you see it, no analysis or influence. After the decision is made, we sent a picture text with this cellphone explaining why we liked it. It's supposed to help expose the growing relationship with the new generation and contemporary art. Mine, also my reasoning, is that last one with the upside-down world.

Because it gives me a sense of the abstract, of memory,
of words, without using a precise meaning it
perfectly expresses a message.
Because it contains everything I love in life: the chaos,
the idea of living, but at the same times it contains
peace and tranquillity.

Because it can be everything and anything and also
the essence of being.
Because it reminds me of the graffiti I saw in Paris.

Because it tells me that a map could not
tell me how to see the world, I'll decide
how I will interpret it.
The next week, my girls and I made a field trip of our own to the bigger section of the art exhibit. Coming straight from school, I regretfully didn't even think to bring my camera. No worries - I've ignored any copyrights that may exist (excuse me, I'm foreign) and stolen any picture I could online...
